Loss of Flexor Pollicis Longus Function after Plating of the RadiusReport of six casesFrom the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tullamore Hospital, Republic of Ireland, and Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, UK Correspondence: Mr P. Keogh, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tullamore Hospital, Co. Offaly, Republic of Ireland. Six cases of loss of flexor pollicis longus function after plating of a radius fracture are presented. The exact aetiology of the postoperative deficit is uncertain, but is probably a traction neuropraxia of the anterior interosseous nerve branches to the flexor pollicis longus. All six patients had full recovery within 5 months. An initial conservative approach is recommended if this complication is encountered.
