Occurrence of Myofibroblasts in Recurrent Dupuytrens DiseaseAn electron microscopic studyFrom the Department of Traumatology, Markusovsky Teaching Hospital, Szombathely and the National Institute of Traumatology, Budapest, Hungary Correspondence: Dr A. Salamon, Department of Traumatology. Markusovszky Teaching Hospital, 9700, Szombathely. Markusovszky Str 3, Hungary. Surgically removed nodules from ten patients with recurrent Dupuytrens disease were studied by electron microscopy. Myofibroblasts were found in eight cases in the active (involutional) stage. The distinctive ultrastructural features were similar to those of the original Dupuytrens disease. We believe that, in addition to other factors, myofibroblasts have a non-specific but important role in the pathology of recurrent Dupuytrens disease.
