E-mail: hildegunde.piza{at}uibk.ac.at In March 2000, we performed a double hand transplantation on a patient who had suffered traumatic hand amputations 6 years previously. The transplantations were both successful and, 18 months later, the patient has regained some complex hand functions and remarkably good tactile gnosis.
