Metacarpal Reconstruction in Compound Contaminated Injuries of the HandJohannesburg, South Africa
The use of an external distraction fixation apparatus in severe compound contaminated injuries of the hand with avulsed segments of metacarpals is described. The method has the advantages of stabilizing bony fragments, maintaining hand length and allowing early access for dressings until reconstruction with a bone graft can be undertaken.
